Abstract
Indonesia is a plural country with a range of conflicts. The social conflict occurs because of prejudices among people who have different ethnicities. Low levels of education also contribute to the understanding and lack of tolerance in others. Economic difficulties facing society also encourage to earn income through tight competition so that in the end of gave birth to conflict. Inter-ethnic suspicion is also augmented by religious differences. It is so easy that there are conflicts that encourage acts of violence among different members of society, so a system that can maintain peace is necessary. Education has an important role to play in preventing social conflicts in society. This is based on education that is organized with multicultural principle that believed to be a real solution for conflict and disharmonization that occur in society, especially in plural reality in Indonesia. Multiculturalism-based education can be said to succeed if it is formed in the students' attitude of tolerant, non-hostile, non-conflicting life caused by cultural differences, tribes, languages, customs and differences.References
