Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the understanding of risk management and the extent of its implementation in Shariah banks in the city of Blitar. The subjects of this research are two Shariah banks located in Blitar, namely Bank Syariah Mandiri and Bank Muamalat. The sample consists of managers and employees from each bank who are responsible for risk management. The sampling method used in this study is target sampling. Data collection is done through interviews and questionnaire distribution. The data analysis used is descriptive and qualitative.

The results of this study indicate that:

(a) The understanding of risk and risk management in Bank Muamalat and Bank Syariah Mandiri branches in Blitar is categorized as 'good'. (b) Most of the risk management practices in Bank Muamalat and Bank Syariah Mandiri branches in Blitar are categorized as 'good'. However, 21.4% in Bank Muamalat and even 13.3% in Bank Syariah Mandiri consider it to be sufficient. (c) The branches of Bank Muamalat and Bank Syariah Mandiri in Blitar assess their risk identification as 'good'. However, 7.1% in Bank Muamalat and 13.3% in Bank Syariah Mandiri are considered sufficient. (d) Bank Muamalat and Bank Syariah Mandiri branches in Blitar state that their risk assessment and analysis are categorized as "good". However, Bank Muamalat considers 28.6% and even 6.7% for Bank Syariah Mandiri as sufficient. (e) Both Bank Muamalat and Bank Syariah Mandiri branches in Blitar provide positive responses to the implementation of risk monitoring and supervision. (f) Whistleblowers in Bank Syariah Mandiri and Bank Muamalat branches in Blitar state that risk management practices related to funding/credit risks are irrelevant if the practices in this area meet expectations. I think it is good if that is indeed the case.
