IMPROVING THE SPEAKING ABILITY OF THE THIRD SEMESTER STUDENTS OF STIT URWATUL WUTSQO JOMBANG THROUGH ROLE PLAY

Abstract
This study was intended to improve the speaking ability of the fourth semester students of STIT Urwatul Wutsqo Jombang through role play. The objective of the study is to describe how role play can improve the speaking ability of the third semester students of STIT Urwatul Wutsqo Jombang. This study used classroom action research design, which is conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of three meetings. The data were gained from observation checklists, field notes and questionnaire. The findings showed that role play was successful in improving the students’ speaking ability of the third semester students of STIT Urwatul Wutsqo Jombang. The improvement could be seen from the increasing of the 34% students’ speaking score from fair level to be very good level and their involvement during the teaching and learning process.
