URGENSI ILMU SEJARAH DALAM STUDI AL-QURAN DAN TAFSIR DARI ZAMAN KLASIK HINGGA KONTEMPORER
Abstract
Paying attention to the historical context in the study of the Quran and its interpretation is of paramount importance, as it can, at the very least, prevent misunderstandings in grasping the Quran's intended meaning. History, as a discipline, plays a crucial role in scholarly investigations, including the study of the Quran and its exegesis (Tafsir). The utilization of historical knowledge in the Quran during classical times is evident through disciplines such as "Asbab al-Nuzul" (the reasons for revelation) and "Ilmu Makkiyah Madaniyyah" (the study of Meccan and Medinan verses). However, in contemporary times, historical knowledge has evolved into a broader analytical tool for Quranic studies. Thus, the question to be addressed in this research is the significance of historical knowledge in the study of the Quran and its interpretation from classical to contemporary times. This study demonstrates that in traditional Quranic studies, historical knowledge, in general, serves the purpose of comprehending the text's meanings within specific contexts, often focusing on specific narrations related to the Quran. In contrast, in the contemporary era, historical knowledge plays a role in a broader context.
