Abstract

Sharia insurance has become known in Indonesia since the establishment of the Takaful Company in 1994 to meet the growing need for insurance services for both individuals and businesses in Indonesia. Insurance is a financial means in managing household life, both in facing basic risks or in dealing with risks to assets owned. This paper tries to read and see between the opportunities and challenges of sharia insurance which is an external assessment of the current condition of sharia insurance and the future that will affect the process of achieving the goals of a sharia financial institution. By reviewing and reading the situation, the characteristics of the strengths and weaknesses of sharia insurance will be obtained, based on the strength of the analysis of the internal and external environment. This paper also discusses the opportunities and challenges of sharia general insurance product innovation so that product and service innovations emerge that are truly extracted from the basic concepts of sharia and also describe several things that are the cause of the relatively low penetration of the sharia insurance market at this time.
