Abstract

Multicultural education is a cultural diversity consisting of diversity of Religion, language, race, ethnicity, and culture. Indonesia has many different philosophies, but has the same goal, namely the strong, solid, peaceful, peaceful, peaceful, just, prosperous, prosperous, and appreciated by other nations. Many figures define multicultural education, including: Muhaimin el Ma'hady cited by Choirul Mahfud, Mundzier Suparta, and H.A.R Tilaar. Development of Multiculturalism: (1) multiculturalism in the context of different cultural recognition struggles; and, (2) multiculturalism that legitimizes cultural diversity, and undergoes several stages, including: the need for recognition, involving other academic disciplines, liberation against impasseism and colonialism, the liberation movement of identity groups and indigenous peoples or indigenous peoples, post-colonialism, globalization, post-nationalism, postmodernism, and post-structuralism that deconstruct the structure of establishment in society. There are four approaches to Multicultural Education: (1) A Contributive Approach; (2) Additive Approach; (3) Transformative Approach; and, (4) the Social Action Approach.Multicultural education has several principles: (1) The subject matter should be culturally open; (2) The content of matter contains differences and similarities; (3) Subject matter according to the context of time and place; (4) Teaching illustrates based on experience and knowledge; and, (5) Education includes an interactive teaching and learning model. For the purpose there are two defining opinions; First, according to D.J. Skeel for the role of the school view the presence of students, to help students apply positively, provide students with resilience in making decisions, and help students build cross-cultural dependence and a positive picture of group differences). Secondly, Abdullah Aly for attitude, knowledge, and learning.
