Abstract

Optimalisasi dana zakat yang cukup besar dapat didayagunakan untuk perbaikan ekonomi masyarakat Indonesia layaknya pajak. Zakat juga dapat difungsikan sebagai pengentasan kemiskinan, perlindungan perempuan dan anak, pemeliharaan lansia, program sosial lingkungan, dan pendidikan. Oleh karenanya, dalam tulisan ini mencoba memberikan gambaran bagaimana peran pemerintah dalam optimalisasi pengelolaan zakat. Dalam artikel ini pula akan dibahas bagaimana idealnya kontribusi dan peran pemerintah dalam pengelolaan zakat, melalui pendekatan sejarah, sosial, dan ekonomi.
