FLEKSIBILITAS SISWA MTs DALAM MENYELESAIKAN PERSAMAAN LINIER SATU VARIABEL DITINJAU DARI PERBEDAAN JENIS KELAMIN

Abstrak

Students often experience difficulties when given problems that are different from the examples given by the teacher. Students also sometimes cannot complete their work due to the lack of time given. One of the factors that influences this is the inability of students to choose the right steps in the work, or even the students' ignorance about the existence of other steps that can be taken in solving the problem or it can be said that students are not flexible. This study aims to determine and describe the flexibility of male students in solving linear equations of one variable and the flexibility of female students in solving linear equations of one variable. This study is a qualitative descriptive study. The purpose of this study is to describe the profile of MTs students' flexibility. In solving linear equations of one variable in terms of gender differences This study shows that male students, two out of three students, provide other, more practical and faster ways of solving. The other methods they use are not taught by the math teacher in class, but from their own thoughts to find a faster way than the method taught by the teacher. They are also able to decide which method is most appropriate for them to use when working on problems. in the same way taught by the teacher, the distributive method is then continued by grouping similar terms, regardless of the form and characteristics of the problem. Because of the differences between the flexibility of male and female students, especially in thinking about or deciding on the strategy to be used in solving linear equations of one variable, teachers should design learning by considering their thinking tendencies in order to maximize the flexibility of both, for example by inviting students to be involved in comparing several methods in several situations.
