Abstract

Islam is not present on the earth in a cultural void. Arabic cultures have evolved since long, long before Islam was born. Islam recognizes that Arabic societies have a culture that is deeply rooted in their hearts. Therefore, the Koran often do dialectic with local cultures that exist. One of the dialectic is the use of stories. The Koran chooses stories as means of sermons to counter cultures that are cherished very well by them, namely prose and poetry. The stories in the Koran are not only used as a cultural opponent, but also as means to fill up the emptiness of spiritual space in shaping the character of the existing literary art. The emptiness of spiritual space has happened since a long time in Arabic literature, so that the Koran needs to fill it.
