Abstrak

The term and perception of usury is very alive in the Islamic world. Therefore, it seems as if the doctrine of usury is unique to Islam. People often forget that the law prohibiting usury, as stated by an American Muslim, Cyril Glasse, in his encyclopedia, is not enforced in any modern Islamic country. Meanwhile, most people do not know that even in the Christian world, for a millennium, usury has been a prohibited item in the view of theologians, scholars and according to existing laws.

On the other hand, we are faced with the reality that the practice of usury which has spread to various countries is difficult to eradicate, so that various authorities are forced to regulate and limit the money-making business. The long debate among jurists regarding usury has not yet found a common ground. Because they each have strong reasons. Finally, various opinions emerged regarding interest and usury.

Usury is not only a problem for Islamic communities, but various groups outside Islam also view the issue of usury seriously. The study of the issue of usury can be traced back more than 2,000 years. The issue of usury has been a topic of discussion among Jews, Greeks and Romans alike. From time to time, Christians have also had their own views regarding usury.
