Abstract
The leadership style or leadership approach used by a manager to motivate employees really depends on the type of manager. In addition, there are several other circumstances that affect, such as; individual characteristics (what motivates the employee; values ​​held, gender, race, age, marital status, number of dependents, years of service, etc.), job characteristics and characteristics of the organization or work environment. In addition, which cannot be ignored are other situational factors. In general, the leadership of the principal at the Islamic Junior High School Durenan Trenggalek is carried out using a task-oriented and relationship-oriented approach to achieve goals. This leadership style has an effect on improving teacher performance which consists of three indicators, namely indicators of work results, indicators of ability and indicators of attitudes. Respondents' responses to the performance indicators showed the highest mean acquisition, namely: 4.55. The ability indicator shows the mean acquisition of 3.95. Finally, the attitude indicator obtained a mean of 4.05. On average, the performance variable has a mean acquisition of 4.19, meaning that respondents agree that their performance has been felt to support the organization in achieving its goals.
