Abstract

Abstract

Nurcholish Madjid is a national figure who is an activist and academic who has become a reference in the field of Islamic thought and education in general, including Islamic boarding schools with all their dynamics. The emergence of the classification of traditional pesantren and khalaf pesantren also did not escape the thoughts of Nurcholish Madjid, who is known as Cak Nur. According to Cak Nur, Islamic boarding schools have an extraordinary role in maintaining their main goals. The main function of the pesantren is as a place for learning religious education. Because of that, Islamic boarding schools make renewal efforts so that they are relevant and in line with the demands of the times and the needs of society.
