Abstract

The era of globalization has had a wide impact on every part of the world, including Indonesia. The impact of globalization is like a double-edged sword, with positive and negative consequences balanced. Competition, integration, and cooperation are the positive impacts of globalization. Meanwhile, negative impacts include the birth of an instant generation, moral decadence, consumerism, and even permissiveness. In addition, other negative impacts are the emergence of violence, drug abuse, free sex, and crime. All of these negative things lead to the loss of national character. Philosophically, character education is the most rational and actual scientific study because it discusses human behavior that is not affected by changes in time. In addition, character education has a normative basis, according to Hamdani Hamid & Beni Ahmad Saebani, including: a) Originating from the teachings of Islam, namely from the Qur'an and As-Sunnah, also applicable to the teachings of other religions widely practiced by humans. b) Customs or cultural norms. c) Philosophical views that become the way of life and the basis of the struggle of a society or a nation. d) Legal norms enacted by the state in the form of a constitution, laws, and other regulations that are coercive and binding on human morals.
