Abstract

Studying the Alala book can serve as a guide and reference for seekers of knowledge, especially those in the early or beginner levels of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), particularly in traditional classical pesantren, as well as in modern Islamic boarding schools. This book is highly influential and plays a significant role in shaping students (santri) to be diligent in learning, possess good morals, demonstrate courtesy in attitude and speech, be devoted to religious study, and have a strong spirit of service. Therefore, it provides great benefits in developing the moral character of santri who study and practice its teachings. The Syi'iran Alala book, compiled by Abu Basyir ad-Dimawi, is a concise poetic summary (nazham) of the Ta'lim al-Muta'allim by Shaykh az-Zarnuji. It serves as a primary reference on ethics, containing guidance on proper manners in seeking knowledge for students. It consists of thirty verses covering topics such as the requirements for seeking knowledge, choosing good companions, the virtues of knowledge, proper methods of acquiring knowledge, Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) and its virtues, as well as the superiority of scholars of *fiqh* over those devoted solely to worship.
