Abstract

The development of children's thinking skills, particularly in understanding number symbols, is an important part of cognitive development. The purpose of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of using a flip chart to enhance 4-5-year-old children's recognition of number symbols 1-10 at TK Shafa Marwah Karawang. This classroom action research utilized the Kemmis and Mc Taggart model, which was carried out in two cycles. The first cycle consisted of five meetings, while the second cycle had three meetings. This study included 15 children, with 8 being boys and 7 being girls. The methods for gathering data in this study involved observing how well children could identify number symbols from 1 to 10, as well as monitoring both teacher and student activities, and keeping records of the findings. The methods of data analysis utilized in this research involved descriptive qualitative techniques along with basic statistical computations. The findings indicated that using a flip chart led to a better understanding of number symbols 1-10. The increase in the average number of children scoring 3 on each indicator was apparent, with 59.73% counting 1-10 in cycle I and 85.96% in cycle II, indicating a 26.23% increase. The success indicator of 75% was surpassed in cycle II. The research results lead to the conclusion that the flip chart can enhance the understanding of number symbols 1-10. The improvement happened because the study used games and a flip chart based on the theory of introducing number symbols to children, and the rewards made the children more excited to play the game.
