Abstract
After the Second World War, efforts to overcome underdevelopment in third world countries were carried out by pursuing economic growth. The development paradigm at that time was dominated by thinking about the importance of economic growth in overcoming underdevelopment. Economics, as a branch of social science, studies human behavior in using limited resources to produce various commodities. Modern economists have described this study well. However, in the conventional perspective, economics is often only associated with material aspects, such as goods and services. Economic activity is often based on material motives, without regard to the meaningful needs of human beings. In the Islamic view, economics cannot be separated from the view of man and his ownership. Man in Islam has a strategic position as the Caliph of God on earth. Therefore, the discussion of economics should refer to the Islamic view which includes faith, Islam, and ihsan. In the era of globalization, relations between nations and between people are increasingly complex. Multilateral and bilateral agreements and the establishment of economic blocs show interconnectedness and dependence around the world. In this context, economic growth remains relevant, but needs to be looked at more broadly, including aspects of meaningfulness and human well-being.
