Abstract

Post-reform 1998, role and function of Kyai are change and expanded. Kyai that previously as a cultural broker is begin to involve on practical politics and start to engage with political structure and power. These are the impact of democratic political system that is applied after reform 1998. One of the agenda is promoting freedom for every citizens and community. As a response to the role of Kyai that is expanded and begin to involve on practical politics, either as vote getter or candidate of local leader.
