Al Yasini: Jurnal Keislaman, Sosial, Hukum dan Pendidikan is committed to ensuring that all authors uphold international standards of academic integrity, particularly regarding the avoidance of plagiarism.
Plagiarism occurs when an author takes ideas, information, or words from another source without providing proper acknowledgement or citation. Even if unintentional, plagiarism remains a serious academic offense and is unacceptable in reputable scientific publications.
If an author uses specific information obtained from a specific source, such as names, dates, places, statistical data, or other detailed information, the author must include a citation. Exceptions only apply to general knowledge that is widely available in various sources or has become public knowledge, for example, the fact that Indonesia is the country with the largest Muslim population in the world.
If an author takes an idea or thought from another author, a citation is still required, even if the idea is later developed further. This idea could be data interpretation, methodology selection, conclusion drawing, developments in a field of study, or other general information. If the author develops the idea, the original source must still be cited first, and then in the following sentence the author can explain the development or elaboration of the idea.
If the author directly takes words from another author, in addition to including a citation, the author must also use quotation marks. If there are four or more words in sequence that are identical to the source read, the use of quotation marks is mandatory to indicate that the sentence is a direct quotation. In this situation, including a citation alone is not sufficient.
