Abstract

This study was conducted by researchers to address the issue of academic stress experienced by students at SMKN 1 Percut Sei Tuan. Academic stress is a state of pressure arising from school demands, such as numerous assignments and high expectations from teachers or the environment. This pressure can affect students' behavior in learning and impact both their academic performance and mental health. The purpose of this research is to reduce students' academic stress by implementing individual counseling services using the Gestalt approach. The Gestalt approach was chosen because it focuses on students' self-awareness, which is expected to help them view problems holistically and develop responsibility in addressing these issues. This study is a qualitative research with a descriptive approach, involving three students as subjects. Data were collected through observations and interviews to identify the factors of academic stress experienced by students and to evaluate the effectiveness of the counseling provided. Data analysis was carried out through reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research findings indicate that individual counseling services using the Gestalt approach significantly reduce students' academic stress levels. Before counseling, students exhibited high-stress symptoms that affected their behavior and academic outcomes. After receiving counseling, they became more capable of managing their time and meeting academic demands more effectively. Penelitian ini dilakukan oleh peneliti untuk mengatasi permasalahan stres akademik yang dialami siswa di SMKN 1 Percut Sei Tuan. Stres akademik adalah kondisi tekanan yang muncul akibat tuntutan sekolah, seperti banyaknya tugas dan ekspektasi yang tinggi dari guru atau lingkungan. Tekanan ini dapat memengaruhi perilaku siswa dalam belajar dan berdampak pada hasil akademik serta kesehatan mental mereka. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengurangi stres akademik siswa dengan menerapkan layanan konseling individual menggunakan pendekatan Gestalt. Pendekatan Gestalt dipilih karena berfokus pada kesadaran diri siswa, yang diharapkan dapat membantu mereka melihat masalah secara menyeluruh dan mengembangkan tanggung jawab untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif, melibatkan tiga siswa sebagai subjek. Data diperoleh melalui observasi dan wawancara untuk mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor stres akademik yang dialami siswa dan untuk mengevaluasi efektivitas konseling yang diberikan. Analisis data dilakukan melalui proses reduksi, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa layanan konseling individual dengan pendekatan Gestalt mampu mengurangi tingkat stres akademik siswa secara signifikan. Sebelum layanan konseling, siswa menunjukkan gejala stres tinggi yang berdampak pada perilaku dan hasil belajar. Setelah menerima konseling, mereka mulai mampu mengatur waktu dan memenuhi tuntutan akademik dengan lebih baik.
