Abstract
This study examines the existence of education in Islamic boarding schools, especially those that intersect with an era of openness and freedom. The research shows that the knowledge taught in Islamic boarding schools must have a blending pattern (general and religious) based on the characteristics of Islamic scholarship, including sources from Allah SWT, generally applicable to all human communities, realistic, and integrated in meaning, not discriminating on the dimensions scientific knowledge, as well as universal so that it can give birth to scientific concepts in all fields and all human needs
